Kabras Sugar and KCB maintain perfect Kenya Cup runs as Oilers’ streak ends

Defending champions Kabras Sugar and last season’s runners-up KCB extended their unbeaten runs in the Kenya Cup, while Menengai Oilers suffered their first loss of the season in a thrilling Saturday of rugby action.
KCB’s showdown against Menengai Oilers was the highlight of the weekend, as both teams entered the clash with unblemished records. The high-stakes encounter at Ruaraka Sports Club lived up to expectations, with KCB edging out a dramatic 29-27 victory. The bankers trailed 12-15 at halftime and looked destined for a 22-27 defeat before a last-gasp try and conversion secured the win.
With the result, KCB remain second on the standings, while Oilers, now reeling from their first loss, sit in third place. Their quest for redemption does not get any easier, as they prepare to face table-toppers Kabras Sugar next weekend in Nakuru.
Kabras Sugar, who have not lost a Kenya Cup match since February 2022, maintained their dominance with a hard-fought 7-3 win over fourth-placed Nondescripts at the Kakamega ASK Showground. The defending champions will now turn their focus to a stern test against Oilers in what promises to be another blockbuster encounter.
